The Global Initiative’s quarterly global newsletter provides a round-up of news and developments on corporal punishment from around the world. In this latest edition, we report on recent law reform workshops working towards prohibition of all corporal punishment in Myanmar and Viet Nam, and highlight moves towards prohibition and other positive developments from across the globe. We also present new resources to support advocacy from the Global Initiative and others – including new regional briefings tracking progress towards prohibition in Africa (marking the Day of the African Child, 16 June), ASEAN member states and SAIEVAC member states – and provide updates from the UN and regional human rights systems, including new recommendations on corporal punishment made to states by four UN treaty bodies, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, and under the Universal Periodic Review.

African e-newsletter issue 25 is out now!

This latest edition of the African newsletter provides a round-up of recent developments, campaigns and positive moves towards ending corporal punishment from across the continent. It presents new global and regional resources to support advocacy on the issue, as well as information from human rights monitoring bodies in Africa and beyond, including new recommendations made to African states by the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Human Rights Council and under the Universal Periodic Review, to prohibit all corporal punishment.

We hope this newsletter will be a useful resource to support individuals and organisations campaigning to prohibit and eliminate all corporal punishment of children – and to encourage the development of new campaigns where they are needed. In this latest edition, we report on recent law reform to prohibit all corporal punishment in Slovenia and Lithuania, moves towards prohibition in Ecuador, Malaysia, Pakistan and USA, and other positive developments in Kazakhstan and Togo. We also present new resources to support advocacy from the Global Initiative and others – including our new global report tracking progress to December 2016 – and provide updates from the UN human rights system, including new recommendations on corporal punishment made to states by six UN treaty bodies and under the Universal Periodic Review.

African e-newsletter issue 24 is out now!

This latest edition of the African newsletter documents recent developments, campaigns and positive moves towards ending corporal punishment from across the region – including an advocacy intervention in Togo to move from prohibition to elimination of all corporal punishment. It presents the new annual global report from the Global Intiative, as well as information from human rights monitoring bodies in Africa and beyond, including new recommendations to African states to prohibit all corporal punishment.

In this edition, we report on Paraguay’s recent prohibition of all corporal punishment, new commitments to law reform made by Namibia, Seychelles and Sierra Leone, and other positive developments in El Salvador, Finland, The Gambia, Peru and Philippines. We also present new resources to support advocacy from the Global Initiative and others, and provide updates from the UN human rights system, including new recommendations to prohibit and eliminate all corporal punishment of children made during recent sessions of the Universal Periodic Review.

We present new resources from the Global Initiative and others to support advocacy to end corporal punishment, including our new interactive global map, and provide updates from the UN human rights system, including new recommendations to states to prohibit all corporal punishment of children.

We also report on new laws prohibiting all corporal punishment in Ireland, Peru and Greenland, and positive steps towards prohibition in Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Mozambique and Uganda, and provide updates from the UN and regional human rights systems, including new recommendations to prohibit all corporal punishment of children.

The Caribbean Coalition for the Abolition of Corporal Punishment of Children (CCACPC) has released the sixth issue of its e-newsletter. This latest edition describes recent developments in Barbados and Jamaica, and sets the global context. It highlights new advocacy resources, including a new global report documenting progress towards prohibition, and provides the latest news on Caribbean states being examined by UN treaty bodies.
