{"id":11462,"date":"2018-10-22T16:51:51","date_gmt":"2018-10-22T15:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/?p=11462"},"modified":"2019-08-02T13:01:55","modified_gmt":"2019-08-02T12:01:55","slug":"supporting-moves-towards-prohibition-in-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/supporting-moves-towards-prohibition-in-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting moves towards prohibition in Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past few months, the Global Initiative has worked with Mexico&#8217;s national child protection system, <em>Sistema Nacional de Protecci\u00f3n de Ni\u00f1as, Ni\u00f1os y Adolescentes<\/em> (SIPINNA) to improve child protection and reduce violence against children in Mexico by advancing the prohibition and elimination of corporal punishment in all settings.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2011, the Mexican Government\u00a0adopted the <em>Regional Roadmap on Violence against Children<\/em>, which includes a recommendation to adopt national legislation to explicitly prohibit all corporal punishment and to repeal provisions allowing for \u201cmoderate\u201d punishment\/correction. Mexico is also a Pathfinding country with the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children and in August 2017 launched its <em>End Violence National Action Plan 2017-2018<\/em> which identifies explicit prohibition of corporal punishment in all settings as a priority.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2018, the Mexican Government hosted the Inter-American Forum on corporal punishment, <em>Reuni\u00f3n Interamericana sobre castigo corporal contra ni\u00f1os, ni\u00f1as y adolescentes<\/em>, aimed at sharing experience and best practices in prohibiting and eliminating corporal punishment across the region.<\/p>\n<p>In September, our Chair, Denise Stuckenbruck, held a webinar with 14 state-level SIPINNA Secretariats to discuss and advise on approaches and best practices in ending corporal punishment.
