The Ivorian Child Rights Coalition, in partnership with the Global Initiative and Save the Children C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of child protection and with funding from the INSPIRE fund, held a workshop on the “harmonisation of national legislation with international and regional standards\u201d which focused specifically on corporal punishment, child marriage and FGM.<\/p>\n
The workshop took place on 19-22 February 2019 in Grand Bassam, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, and involved local civil society, Government representatives, the National Council for Human Rights, a parliamentarian, academics and members of the judiciary. Over the course of the four days, participants received training on the seven INSPIRE strategies to end violence against children and took part in interactive discussions to review child protection gaps in domestic legislation. These discussions resulted in three draft Bills on each theme \u2013 corporal punishment, child marriage and FGM \u2013 and participants also drew up a multi sectorial action plan for law reform to achieve prohibition of these forms of violence. An advocacy committee was put in place to hold the responsibility for bringing this action plan forward and presenting the draft Bills to the Government.<\/p>\n
C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire became a Pathfinder country with the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children in 2018. This committed the Government to taking accelerated action towards the elimination of all forms of violence against children. The Global Initiative will continue to provide support to our national partners on the issue of prohibition and elimination of all corporal punishment in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n
