In light of recent governmental declarations, we are seeking confirmation that Vanuatu is indeed committed to enacting a clear prohibition of all forms of corporal punishment of children \u2013 see the <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/vanuatu\/\">detailed country report<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Afghanistan<\/strong>, <strong>Chile<\/strong> and the <strong>Comoros<\/strong> received recommendations to prohibit corporal punishment in all settings and deferred their responses to the 41<sup>st<\/sup> session of the Human Rights Council in June 2019.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slovakia<\/strong> also deferred its response to a recommendation to \u201cput an end to corporal punishment of children in all settings\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uruguay<\/strong> supported a recommendation to effectively implement the legislation enacted in 2007 to prohibit all corporal punishment of children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cambodia<\/strong>, the <strong>Dominican Republic<\/strong>, <strong>Eritrea<\/strong>, <strong>Viet Nam<\/strong> and <strong>Yemen<\/strong> all did not receive specific recommendations on corporal punishment, despite not having enacted a ban. <strong>Cyprus<\/strong>, <strong>New Zealand <\/strong>and<strong> North Macedonia<\/strong>, which achieved prohibition in 1994, 2007 and 2013 respectively, also did not receive a recommendation on corporal punishment.<\/p>\n<p>For further details, see the Global Initiative\u2019s individual country reports for <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/afghanistan\/\">Afghanistan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/cambodia\/\">Cambodia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/chile\/\">Chile<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/comoros\/\">Comoros<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/cyprus\/\">Cyprus<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/dominican-republic\/\">Dominican Republic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/eritrea\/\">Eritrea<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/new-zealand\/\">New Zealand<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/slovakia\/\">Slovakia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/north-macedonia\/\">North Macedonia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/uruguay\/\">Uruguay<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/vanuatu\/\">Vanuatu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/viet-nam\/\">Viet Nam<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/yemen\/\">Yemen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/human-rights-law\/universal-periodic-review-upr\/\">page on the Universal Periodic Review<\/a> for more information on the review process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The issue of corporal punishment of children was raised with several of the states under review at the Universal Periodic Review\u2019 32nd session in January\/February 2019: Vanuatu supported several clear recommendations to explicitly prohibit corporal punishment of children in all settings.
