A commitment to achieving prohibition in a specific setting, for example in schools, is certainly welcome, but it is not enough to meet states\u2019 human rights obligations and to guarantee children the protection from violence they deserve.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-4\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<div class=\"feature-box text-center media-box \">\n    <div class=\"fbox-media\">\n                    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-no-retina src=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/1.Home_-940x788.jpg\" alt=\"1.Home\" width=\"940\" height=\"788\" class=\"img-responsive\" \/>\n        \t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"fbox-desc\">\n        <h2><\/h2>\n        <span class=\"subtitle\"><\/span>\n        \n    <\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t\n\t<div style=\"padding-bottom: 40px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t\n<div class=\"heading-block text-left heading-block-line\">\n\t<h3 class=\"special-heading\" >How we do assess commitment?<\/h3>\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<div class=\"text-block shortcode-container\" >\n\t<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">A state\u2019s commitment is assessed on an individualised basis, taking into account the wider national context. Some of the criteria taken into consideration are:<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<ul class=\"list-triangle\">\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Introducing and\/or actively supporting a Bill to prohibit all corporal punishment of children;                            <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Expressing clear support for recommendations to prohibit all corporal punishment made during the state\u2019s Universal Periodic Review (UPR);                            <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Making a public expression of commitment on a global, regional or national stage, including becoming a Pathfinding country;                            <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Expressing or confirming commitment to prohibition in a communication to End Corporal Punishment.                            <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n    <\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<div class=\"text-block shortcode-container\" >\n\t<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Actions speak louder than words! <\/strong> A state\u2019s committed status may be revoked due to inaction over time or if a state backtracks on its commitment, including by:<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<ul class=\"list-triangle\">\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Claiming law reform is not necessary despite a lack of prohibition in legislation,                            <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Defending the use of so-called \u2018reasonable\u2019 punishment,                             <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Opposing or not facilitating the passage of a Bill to prohibit all corporal punishment,                             <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            \u201cNoting\u201d or rejecting UPR recommendations to prohibit,                             <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n            <li class=\"object-non-visible\" data-animation-effect=\"fade-in\" data-effect-delay=\"0\">\n            Not reporting on progress towards prohibition on relevant platforms, etc.                            <i class=\"fa fa-circle-o\"><\/i>\n                    <\/li>\n    <\/ul>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t\n\t<div style=\"padding-bottom: 40px;\"><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div >\n\t<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>We are still calling on governments that have not yet achieved prohibition to publicly commit to reforming their laws, without delay, but we also need your help!<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">In 2024, we conducted an in-depth review of states committed to law reform.
