We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for all their work, together our efforts mean that the movement to end violent punishment in childhood becomes stronger every year!<\/p><p>A few highlights from 2021:<\/p><ul><li><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.end-violence.org\/articles\/republic-korea-prohibits-all-corporal-punishment-children\">Republic of Korea<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.end-violence.org\/articles\/colombia-becomes-63rd-state-prohibit-all-forms-corporal-punishment-against-children\">Colombia<\/a> enacted laws prohibiting corporal punishment in all settings of children\u2019s lives, meaning that 23 million more children now have legal protection from violent punishment!<\/strong> There was also progress towards prohibition of corporal punishment in schools in Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan and the United States Virgin Islands \u2013 further details to come in 2022.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6 col-md-3\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<div class=\"feature-box text-center media-box \">\n    <div class=\"fbox-media\">\n                    <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/countdown\/\" target=\"_self\">\n                <img decoding=\"async\" data-no-retina src=\"\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/global-map.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"\" height=\"\" class=\"img-responsive\" \/>\n            <\/a>\n        \t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"fbox-desc\">\n        <h2><\/h2>\n        <span class=\"subtitle\"><\/span>\n        \n    <\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12 col-md-9\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<div class=\"text-block shortcode-container\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\n\t<ul><li><strong>It was another big year for progress in research on corporal punishment.<\/strong> The Lancet put corporal punishment on the front cover, the World Health Organisation published its first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/corporal-punishment-and-health\">factsheet on corporal punishment and health<\/a> (soon to be available in more languages) and new studies confirmed that corporal punishment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.end-violence.org\/articles\/corporal-punishment-study\">makes children\u2019s behaviour worse<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.end-violence.org\/articles\/landmark-study-shows-spanking-alters-childrens-brain-development\">affects children\u2019s brain development<\/a> and has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.end-violence.org\/articles\/new-study-shows-spanking-has-similar-effects-kids-adverse-childhood-experiences\">similar effects \u00a0to other Adverse Childhood Events<\/a>. In October we co-hosted a webinar with the World Health Organisation exploring corporal punishment as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0aw8caswKjE&amp;t=4707s\">public health issue<\/a>, and published our new <a href=\"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/resources\/research-summary\/\">research summaries<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul><p>&nbsp;<\/p><ul><li><strong>April 30 2021 was the first International Day to #EndCorporalPunishment!<\/strong> As well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D01r_xuICaE&amp;t=4127s\">high-level international webinar<\/a> hosted by the Governments of Japan, France and Tunisia, the day included many national events, articles by organisations including the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.worldbank.org\/education\/unacceptable-and-intolerable-reality-corporal-punishment-children-and-youth\">World Bank<\/a>, and a Twitter reach of 24 million. And we will do it again in 2022, but this time bigger and better! Put the date in your diary now!<\/li><\/ul><p>&nbsp;<\/p><ul><li>We also held <strong>webinars<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GohuHtQaq5c&amp;t=6257s\">implementing prohibition<\/a> and corporal punishment in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iH-j_aqcb1U&amp;t=2267s\">early childhood<\/a>, took part in many others, and we launched <strong>five new publications<\/strong> \u2013 you can find them all below.<\/li><\/ul><p>&nbsp;<\/p><ul><li><strong>There has been active campaigning to prohibit and\/or eliminate corporal punishment in many parts of the world<\/strong>, including Sri Lanka, Canada, Sierra Leone, Jamaica, France, the USA, Costa Rica, Colombia, Thailand, Philippines, Brazil, Wales, South Africa\u2026and many more! (We will be sharing a survey in the New Year to find out what is happening where you are).<\/li><\/ul><p>There has been encouraging progress across all areas of work to end violence against children.
