States can either accept or \u2018note\u2019 UPR recommendations.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><p><strong>India<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Indonesia, Morocco<\/strong> and <strong>the Philippines\u00a0<\/strong>accepted recommendations to prohibit corporal punishment of children in some or all settings of their lives.<\/p><p><strong>Note: <\/strong>Indonesia and the Philippines were already committed to reforming their laws to prohibit corporal punishment in all settings. In the Philippines, a House Bill and a Senate Bill were respectively introduced in July 2022 and March 2023. Both bills aim to prohibit corporal punishment in all settings.<\/p><p>We will be following up with India, Indonesia and Morocco to confirm their intentions to introduce prohibiting legislation.<\/p><p><strong>Algeria <\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>the<strong> UK\u00a0<\/strong>noted (rejected) recommendations to prohibit in all settings. \u00a0Referring to the recommendations that it rejected, the Government of Algeria stated (unofficial translation): \u2018 \u2026Some [of these] recommendations are in contradiction with the Constitution or contrary to the values  and rules that unite the Algerian society\u2026\u2019<\/p><p>Despite the ongoing legality of corporal punishment in\u00a0<strong>Bahrain <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ecuador<\/strong>, no recommendations on the issue were made to them. They both supported general recommendations on the protection of children from violence.<\/p><p>Prohibiting state<strong> Tunisia <\/strong>(enacted prohibition in 2010) received a recommendation to enforce the criminal prohibition of corporal punishment of children.
