{"id":2544,"date":"2017-12-21T11:26:16","date_gmt":"2017-12-21T11:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/?page_id=2544"},"modified":"2025-03-13T18:39:14","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T18:39:14","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/resources\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n            <div class=\"separator- glacier-section\"  id=\"section-69d78cb810312\">\n            <div class=\"container\">\n                <section>\n                    \n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t\n<div class=\"heading-block text-left heading-block-line\">\n\t<h2 class=\"special-heading\" >Research<\/h2>\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<div class=\"text-block shortcode-container\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\n\t<p>The message from research is very clear: <strong>corporal punishment carries multiple risks of harm and has no benefits.<\/strong><\/p><p>Corporal punishment is a violation of children\u2019s rights and international human rights law requires prohibition and elimination of all corporal punishment, including in the family home.<\/p><p>Research can powerfully illuminate and support advocacy on the issue, and the evidence is now overwhelming \u2013 more than 300 studies over 50 years involving 100,000s of children show associations between corporal punishment and a wide range of negative outcomes, while no studies have found evidence of any benefits.&nbsp;<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-12\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-8\" style=\"background: transparent  \">\n\t<div class=\"text-block shortcode-container\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\n\t<p>Evidence from research also illustrates how corporal punishment violates not just children\u2019s right to freedom from all violence, but also their rights to health, development and education, and has damaging effects on society as well as individuals. It makes the issue visible, challenging claims by some governments that it is not a problem, and it provides a benchmark for measuring the success of efforts to implement prohibiting legislation and eliminate corporal punishment in practice.
