All states that have not yet prohibited corporal punishment in all settings except one received recommendations to prohibit all corporal punishment of children:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Bahamas<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Barbados<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Burundi<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>France<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Serbia<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>United Arab Emirates<\/strong>\u00a0all received recommendations to prohibit corporal punishment in all settings \u2013 their respective Governments deferred giving a response until the 38<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0session of the Human Rights Council in June 2018.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tonga<\/strong>\u00a0supported a recommendation to prohibit judicial corporal punishment and another to abolish the provisions which authorise corporal punishment. We are seeking to establish the Government\u2019s intentions in supporting these recommendations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Botswana<\/strong>\u00a0\u2018noted\u2019 (did not support) several recommendations to prohibit in all settings. In Botswana, corporal punishment of children is still lawful in every setting of children\u2019s lives, including as a sentence for a crime.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Montenegro<\/strong>, which enacted a full legal prohibition in 2016, supported a recommendation to raise awareness of the ban.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mali<\/strong>\u00a0did not receive a recommendation to prohibit corporal punishment, despite the legality of its use in the home.<strong>\u00a0Israel<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Liechtenstein<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Luxembourg<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Romania<\/strong>\u00a0have prohibited corporal punishment in all settings; they did not receive recommendations on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>For further details, see the Global Initiative\u2019s individual country reports:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/bahamas\/\">Bahamas<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/barbados\/\">Barbados<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/botswana\/\">Botswana<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/burundi\/\">Burundi<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/france\/\">France<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/israel\/\">Israel<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/liechtenstein\/\">Liechtenstein<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/luxembourg\/\">Luxembourg<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/mali\/\">Mali<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/montenegro\/\">Montenegro<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/romania\/\">Romania<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/serbia\/\">Serbia<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/tonga\/\">Tonga<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endcorporalpunishment.net\/reports-on-every-state-and-territory\/united-arab-emirates\/\">United Arab Emirates<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fourteen states were reviewed at the\u00a029th\u00a0session of the Universal Periodic Review\u00a0in January 2018.
