The meaning of \u2018noting\u2019 a recommendation is ambiguous, but it is often similar to \u2018rejecting\u2019 as it signifies that the state refuses to commit to implementing the recommendation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Japan<\/strong>\u00a0supported several clear recommendations to explicitly prohibit corporal punishment in all settings \u2013 we are seeking official confirmation from the Government that it is committed to enacting prohibition of all corporal punishment of children, in all settings.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Czech Republic<\/strong>\u00a0gave a mixed response to recommendations on corporal punishment: although the Government supported general recommendations to put an end to corporal punishment of children, it noted specific recommendations to explicitly prohibit its use in all settings. It had previously stated that \u201cparents may apply their upbringing methods only to a\u00a0<em>reasonable<\/em>\u00a0degree\u201d (emphasis added).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pakistan<\/strong>\u00a0supported a recommendation to \u201cconsider the implementation of the necessary safeguards for the protection of children against corporal punishment\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Argentina<\/strong>, which prohibited all corporal punishment in 2014, supported a recommendation to enact prohibiting legislation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For further details, see the Global Initiative\u2019s news item on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/endcorporalpunishment.org\/news\/12\/2017\/ghana-commits-to-prohibiting-all-corporal-punishment-at-upr%E2%80%99s-28th-session.html\">initial outcomes<\/a>\u00a0of the 28<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0session of the Universal Periodic Review.
